Behind the door
The Golden Lion is a former coaching inn on High Street, a short walk from St Ives harbour and the beach.
There are two bars, each with its own crowd: the front bar for a pint and a conversation, the back bar for the pool table, live music and the big screen. Sharp's Doom Bar, Sea Fury and Atlantic pour from the handpumps, with up to four real ciders beside them — and more ales go on through the summer.
Dogs are welcome, families too, and there is an ample courtyard garden at the rear. The wall outside says what the house believes: education is important, but beer is more importanter.
